Fortress InterlocksproNET safety and communications module has been nominated for the Tomorrow’s Health and Safety Awards 2017.

proNET adds industrial Ethernet communications to its amGardpro range of safety interlocks, which enables the amGardpro’s features to be distributed IO (input-output) on a PROFINET network, with safety information exchanged using PROFIsafe extensions. Added benefits include reduced installation costs, easier maintenance and greater availability of data for improved diagnosis.

Most safety interlocks are either not electrically connected (deliberately so in the case of some mechanical, trapped key interlocks) or are ‘wired at gate’, meaning all electrical connections go via a control PLC and safety relay. This can mean up to 20 wires from each device going to the control panel. proNET overcomes this by taking advantage of PROFINET and PROFIsafe, allowing operators to have just one power and Ethernet cable going from the control panel, allowing devices to be attached in a variety of topologies, depending on requirements.

The amGardpro is a range of fully integrated safety interlocks, including solenoid and non-solenoid safety switches. It has an extensive range of additional options, including key control modules, internal and escape release, redundant sensors, lock out/tag out, push buttons, estops and indication lights for enhanced functionality, all assembled in one device. EPC family delivers responsive liquid or gas pressure control, tailored to application needs

Alicat Scientific has added two new families of electronic pressure controllers specifically for high volume original equipment manufacture. The EPC family with single proportional valves, and EPCD family with dual valves, provide customized pressure control in embedded systems. The small footprint instruments respond quickly to upstream fluctuations to provide fast, accurate control of pressure in an economical, easy-to-integrate package. Alicat offers a choice of valves, valve orifices and process connections to fit customer specifications. EPC instruments are ideal for use in OEM gas chromatographs, fluidics dispensing for flow cytometry, and anywhere responsive pressure control is needed.

EPC and EPCD instruments have a 100 ms control response to still upstream pressure fluctuations in real time. NIST-traceable accuracy is 0.25% full-scale. The EPC family’s single proportional valve provides stable control of pressure in flowing applications, such as maintaining flow of carrier gas through the sample injection point in gas chromatographs. The EPCD features a second exhaust valve to provide efficient control of pressure in closed volumes, such as controlling the head space above a fluid for dispensing.

Alicat offers NPT, SAE, downport, and NeSSi process connections. Both digital (RS-232, RS-485, Modbus) and analog (0-5v, 0-10v, 4-20mA) communications are available to suit a range of end-user products. DR-Probe removes localized variance

The Ocean Optics Diffuse Reflectance Probe (DR-Probe) measures 45° diffuse reflectance, enhancing UV-Vis and NIR spectroscopy results. This sampling tool removes localized variance in reflectance measurements. It is ideal for applications such as color analysis, material identification and quality monitoring of foods.

The DR-Probe integrates a light source and collection optics into one unit to measure 45° diffuse reflectance. With the probe’s collection optics fixed in place relative to the light source, the measurement geometry is constant. An included standoff accessory ensures a consistent 40 mm focal length between the probe and the sample. Sampling uniformity increases the reliability and consistency of measurement results.

Extracted Key Adaptor from Fortress Prevents Inadvertent Machinery Startup

To prevent the inadvertent startup of dangerous machinery, Fortress Interlocks has developed an extracted key adaptor for use with its robust amGardpro, amGardS40 (IP69K) and mGard interlock ranges.

By forcing an operator to extract the safety key when operating an interlock, the adaptor ensures the key cannot be turned and left in place, inadvertently re-starting machinery.

It is designed to be kept with the operator, ensuring any access points cannot be closed and re-started while working in a hazardous area. Additional safety keys can be released following the forced extraction of the initial key, allowing the protection of multiple users at the same time.

Sensorex Expands UV Transmittance Offerings with Submersible Sensor

UVT-LED-SW delivers efficient, accurate UV transmittance monitoring for municipal wastewater applications

The UVT-LED-SW UV Transmittance Sensor provides continuous monitoring for accurate UV disinfection dosing. The probe delivers fast, accurate, UV transmittance readings in open channel wastewater treatment applications where UV disinfection is used. With proper dosing adjustment based on UVT values, fluctuations in organic content can be accounted for and UV disinfection energy efficiency is increased.

The UVT-LED-SW is mounted directly to the wall of any open channel system, taking automatic measurements every 60 seconds. The sensor directly outputs a 4-20mA signal, integrating into a variety of process monitoring systems without a transmitter or controller.

Patented cleaning and calibration features ensure UVT-LED-SW measurements are accurate and reliable. The integrated Teflon wiper delivers a swift cleaning cycle before each reading is taken, preventing fouling and build-up. At the same time, the sensor self-calibrates to an integrated quartz reference standard.

The unit’s highly efficient UV-C LED lamps provide up to five times longer life than comparable mercury lamps, eliminating field-serviceable parts. All of these features reduce maintenance and significantly lower operating expenses related to UVT monitoring and UV disinfection. No costly service and maintenance contracts are required; all maintenance can be performed onsite.

Sensorex offers several installation kits, including mounting hardware for new installations and retrofits of Hach UVAS models. The UVT-LED-SW is also compatible with Hach SC200 controllers for retrofit installation.

The submersible UVT sensor is the third product in the Sensorex UVT-LED family. New BioChem Fluidics Electric Rotary Valve Designed for Aggressive Fluids

Stepper motor driven valve provides inert Teflon fluid path

The Electric Rotary Valve from BioChem Fluidics is ideal for designers of analytical and laboratory devices to complete sample collection, loop injection or flow path selection applications. The valve is specifically designed to work with aggressive or reactive fluids.

Fluid entering the valve follows an inert flow path achieved by aligning orifices in a CTFE rotor and a PTFE body, precision fit together to ensure a tightly sealed interface. Motion is provided by an optional stepper motor. An optoelectronic position sensor inside the valve provides the rotor’s position to the valve’s control circuit.

The ERV has a chemically resistant, Teflon fluid path that is free of any metal parts. The resistance of the Teflon body to particulate and chemical adhesion reduces the frequency of valve seizure after instrument downtime.

The valve is available in a number of flow configurations that match most common applications. Standard ¼”-28 UNF fluid port connections with stainless steel threaded inserts, and NEMA 17 stepper motors allow easy integration into sophisticated systems. Since BioChem Fluidics machines the fluid path and valve body internally, the ERV can be customized upon request.
